"Take a moment to remember, Who God is and who I am - there You go lifting my load again"
These lyrics from the song by Will Reagon are the anthem of my days this month! There seems to be a constant rushing, constant noise, constant work and just the normality of life. Yet through out the day I hear Him say "Take a moment simply to think on Me, on who I am and who you are in Me".
I am brought back to the reality that he has designated grace for today, hope for tomorrow and faith for the unseen.
As I look around me on a broader scale I see a world that seems to be going downhill faster than I have time to realize. People in pain inflicting pain on each other, wars, disasters, perversions etc. Yet I hear Him say "Take a moment to remember Who I am". Clarity sets in amongst the fearful chaos that are the thoughts in my head, and I remember that nothing, nothing, is above Him. Nothing is greater and nothing can defeat Him.
We need super-natural solutions and wisdom these days to live a life of fullness in the entirety of all that salvation has made accessible to us, and not just exist in a body and occupy a life. We were never meant to simply survive!
Where else does this wisdom come from but from the fear of the Lord?

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
(Prov. 9:10)
(Prov. 9:10)
Knowing who He is creates the correct fear of the Lord. And when we get to know Him, we see that:
The fear of the Lord is not being scared of God, but being scared to be away from Him! Wanting to be so close to him, that we violently reject anything that would distance us from His presence.(Heb. 12)
This is the fear of the Lord, this is wisdom. The only safe place for us is in His presence!
In a world where wisdom is uncommon - where people follow the impulse of their flesh and damage other lives around them - the fear of the Lord is counter-cultural. Let me say that a different way; Intimacy with God is counter-cultural!
Pride, fear, doubt, and worry - all these things are not a product of love. All of these things drag the eyes of my heart away from His beautiful face and lure me into sin.
So, when I stop and take a moment to remember who God is and who I am, I am caught up once again in just how capable my Father is. I hear wisdom. I can access the grace I need for this moment, to take a step of faith towards what I hope for. I take that moment to trade my burden and yoke - one that is unnatural to me - for His yoke which is easy and light.
It doesn't take more than a moment...
- God is Love (1 John 4:8)
- His thoughts towards us are greater than the sand by the sea! (ps. 139:18)
- He is for us (Rom. 8:31)
- He delights in us (ps. 149:4)
- He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16)
